When it comes to safety and cutting consistency, the American-made Grip-Tite System has few equals. When used on a cast iron table, Lexan fins simultaneously apply even pressure to both the top and side of the board, and the angle & shape of the Lexan fins make this the most kickback-proof hold down system available.
The Grip-Tite's ability to control the lumber makes it far safer to cut strips as narrow as 1/8" between the fence and blade, and if you don't have a choice but rip warped lumber, no other system provides as much safety. The focused magnet design has amazing hold down power on any steel or cast iron surface, and a release lever reduces the pull for removing or repositioning the feather board.
In addition to preventing kickback and keeping your fingers further from the blade, the Grip-Tite System shines at making cuts more consistent when ripping longer boards.Stock longer than 4ft. gets challenging, and 6" to 8" lumber can be very difficult to rip accurately without a good set of hold downs (or a lot of operator skill). One of our other favorite applications is using the Grip-Tite Feather Board to apply consistent pressure to hold lumber against a band saw fence when resawing, just the ticket for getting consistent parts when the lumber gets thin.
